In 1964, Chef John Porfirio transitioned from the restaurant industry to create fresh pasta for his neighbors in Trenton’s Italian section, Chambersburg. In addition to fresh pasta, he introduced a range of traditional Italian dishes, including lasagna, eggplant parmigiana, meatballs, and sauces. Porfirio's Italian Foods quickly became a neighborhood staple. Our ravioli, manicotti, stuffed shells, gnocchi, and cavatelli graced Sunday tables, and before long, our specialties were enjoyed any day of the week. Anticipating the desire for convenience in the kitchen, our shop expanded to offer a complete selection of imported Italian products, such as cheeses, meats, oils, vinegars, candies, cookies, and a variety of canned goods for home cooks. As the third generation took the reins, Porfirio’s began supplying numerous local restaurants, maintaining wholesale operations in Trenton while prioritizing retail. In 2002, a second store opened in Hamilton, featuring a vibrant new Italian Market with prepared foods, a full deli section, and a broader array of Italian products.
